SACRAMENTO – Sheriff’s Captain Jim Cooper today released the following statement regarding yesterday’s primary election results: “I am pleased with the results that we saw last night, and encouraged that my message resonated with many voters! “I would like to remind everyone that it is not over yet. We still have a lot of work ahead of us between now and November, but I am certain that we will be successful as these next few months will give us time to speak with voters and let them know what I plan to do to move the Sheriff’s Department forward. “My number one priority has always been protecting the community and serving those in need and that remains true today. As Sheriff I will work to get more deputies out on the streets protecting our citizens and businesses. I will go out on patrol to keep in touch with the community and hear about their needs and concerns first hand through Community Advisory Groups and partnering with many of our local non-profits. “I will continue to focus my campaign on what I am going to do to manage our budget and keep deputies on the street and I am confident that as we move forward all of my supporters, as well as my opponent’s engage in professional, respectful and civil campaigning. “I would like to thank everyone who has volunteered and supported my campaign thus far and I look forward to working with all of you as I continue to get my message out to the voters to become the next Sheriff of Sacramento County.” Cooper has served the people of Sacramento County in the Sheriff's Department for more than 25 years and currently commands the Sacramento Valley Hi-Tech Crime’s Task Force investigating Internet crimes against children and identity theft. SACRAMENTO -- California State Senate President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg (D-Sacramento) and Assemblymember Dave Jones today individually announved their endorsements of Captain Cooper as the next Sheriff of Sacramento County.
"I am proud to endorse Captain Cooper as the next Sheriff for Sacramento County," said Steinberg, whose 6th Senate district covers a large protion of Sacramento County, including the cities of Sacramento, North Highlands, Citrus Heights and poritons of Elk Grove, Rio Linda, Carmichael and Rancho Cordova.
"Our community needs a leader who has experience in the field and the ability to be a strong leader as well as a strong fiscal manager," Steinberg continued. "Jim has all three of those and will help bring morale back to Sacramento County and ensure public safety."
